This class is for students who’ve been doing gymnastics since they were little (either through regular classes or competitive teams) or who found it later in life and’ve been training for a while. These students have stayed healthy and fit through regular exercise, other sports, or some continued gymnastics training. We’ll focus on tumbling, which might include some moderate impact and jumping skills like round-offs, handsprings, and somersaults. We’ll also use some apparatus to help you learn basic skills that’ll improve your kinesthetic awareness, strength, and muscle coordination.
To get placed in the Intermediate level, you’ll need to be able to do the following skills safely and properly:
- Hold a handstand for a moment and then roll forward to stand up.
- Hold a bridge or L-hold for 10 seconds.
- Rebound from a round-off.
- Jump off a springboard and land on your hands, then flip onto a 2-foot high mat.
- Pull yourself over on a low (chin height) horizontal bar.
- Cast above the horizontal on a horizontal bar.
